Message from the CEO – December 2024

Dec 12, 2024

Dear Valued Members and Stakeholders,

As we approach the end of a very eventful fourth quarter, I am proud to reflect on the progress we have made together at the Fund. This quarter has been marked by collaboration, engagement, and a steadfast commitment to advancing sustainable housing opportunities for First Nations communities across Canada.

A cornerstone of our efforts remains the ongoing work on the Transfer of Care and Control of the Fund to First Nations ownership. This initiative is at the heart of our vision for self-determination and empowerment in housing solutions.
Our partnerships have also deepened in impactful ways. This quarter, we signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with:

Both partnerships reflect our commitment to collaborative solutions that expand housing opportunities and improve affordability for First Nations residents.

Engagement with communities and stakeholders remains a priority. In October and November we hosted two highly attended webinars as well as two in-person engagement sessions, facilitated by Cree8ive Advisory, to explore critical topics such as:

  • Feedback on a new membership model,
  • The transfer of care and control of the Fund, and
  • Future products and services that align with community needs.

These sessions received remarkable participation, showcasing the shared enthusiasm for shaping the Fund’s future.
We were also proud to collaborate on Opening Doors: How the First Nations Market Housing Fund Enhances Housing Options in Canada, a study conducted by the Conference Board of Canada. This research provides valuable insights into factors influencing homeownership in First Nations communities and evaluates the impact of our capacity development and credit enhancement programs.

Also, this quarter, we engaged directly with our clients by attending 10 in-person events, fostering deeper connections and learning. We look forward to continuing these engagements in 2025, with plans to participate in the AFN Housing Forum in Calgary and the AFOA Canada National Conference in Halifax.

Finally, we are excited to have launched our new video, highlighting our vision of First Nation Prosperity Through Homeownership. This dynamic piece underscores our mission and commitment to empowering communities through housing.

As we close out 2024, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our partners, stakeholders, and team members who have made this quarter’s achievements possible.

Wishing you continued success and prosperity.
