Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter, designed to keep you informed about the recent developments, initiatives, and success stories within the First Nations Market Housing Fund (FNMHF). We are excited to share updates on how we are working together to improve housing opportunities for First Nations communities across the nation. Let’s dive into the highlights of this last quarter:

Message from CEO

Dear Valued Members and Stakeholders, as we wrap up another quarter, I’m pleased to share key updates and initiatives that reflect the Fund’s ongoing commitment to supporting First Nations communities. The second quarter was a productive and eventful period for our team. READ MORE HERE.

Strategic Planning Session

In early-April, staff and Trustees gathered at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino to participate in a 2-day strategic planning session, facilitated by Cree8ive Advisory.

The session reflected on many key items, including:

  • how the Fund’s reform efforts affects our strategic goals;
  • identifying the Fund’s position in the market;
  • focus on regional marketing and engagement;
  • a review of the recent regional engagement sessions;
  • discussions on the transfer of care and control of the Fund to First Nations control

The session brought together perspectives from both staff and leadership to develop a more comprehensive plan towards the Fund’s self-sufficiency to better serve First Nations across the country. We look forward to our next gathering in 2026!

Conferences

NATOA Trust & Investment Conference

The team spent two incredible days at the NATOA Trust & Investment Conference 2025 in Winnipeg! The conference brought together experts, thought leaders, and Indigenous professionals committed to securing a stronger financial future for our communities.

Key takeaways included:

  • The importance of transparency and accountability in trust management
  • Strategies for balancing risk, responsibility, and returns
  • How Indigenous values can shape modern investment frameworks
  • The power of community-driven financial planning

A huge thank you to our presenters, panelists, sponsors, and attendees for making this event such a success! We’re inspired by the dedication to empowering beneficiaries and securing long-term prosperity.

Sustainable Finance Summit

Our CEO, Travis Seymour, participated in a panel discussion entitled Sustainable Reporting: A Transformative Lever for Global Finance.

As part of the 2025 Sustainable Finance Summit in Montreal in May, the conversation brought together leaders from across the financial ecosystem to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of sustainability reporting and its far reaching implications. Travis emphasized the critical role of clear, credible reporting in supporting both accountability and competitiveness for Canadian firms and other evolving standards.

Atlantic FNHPA Gathering

 The Fund was proud to attend the Atlantic FNHPA Gathering, held May 27–28, 2025, in Truro, Nova Scotia.

This event brought together housing professionals from across the Atlantic region to share insights, foster collaboration, and build stronger networks in support of First Nation housing.

Highlights included an inspiring address from FNHPA CEO Candace Bennett, who shared her vision for the future of First Nation housing, and an engaging workshop led by Roxanne Harper on critical housing challenges. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the new FNHPA Housing Assessment and Learning Pathway Tool—a valuable resource for ongoing professional development.

Waasnode Housing Conference

Earlier this month, our team was thrilled to attend the Waasnode Housing Conference! The conference brought together over 150 housing professionals, community leaders, and industry experts for two full days of knowledge sharing, networking, and innovation.

Hosted by the Technical Services Departments of Mamaweswen, the conference welcomed representatives from 20 First Nations to the Holiday Inn in Sudbury.

Highlights included a tradeshow, interactive workshops on emerging technologies, and in-depth sessions on building science and sustainability.

The energy and collaboration throughout the event reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing housing excellence across our Nations.
