Message from the CEO – September 2026

Sep 23, 2026

Dear Valued Members and Stakeholders,

As we move through the second half of 2026, I am pleased to reflect on a busy and productive summer for the FNMHF. From connecting with First Nations leaders and housing practitioners across the country to welcoming new team members and strengthening our organization, the past few months have been filled with opportunities to learn, collaborate and advance our shared commitment to First Nations-led homeownership.

This summer provided many opportunities to connect with our members, clients and partners. In mid July, our team attended the Assembly of First Nations Annual General Assembly in Ottawa, where we had the opportunity to connect with First Nations leaders and communities. Concurrent with the AFN AGA, we gathered in Ottawa for our Strategic Planning Session, bringing together both staff and Trustees to collaborate on the Fund’s future direction. This planning session was an opportunity to align our collective vision, hear from subject matter experts and set the course for the years ahead. We also hosted our second Annual General Meeting, providing an opportunity to reflect on the Fund’s progress over the past year and our continued work to support First Nations-led pathways to homeownership.

Of course, our summer was not all business! In July, our team gathered at Petrie Island Beach in Ottawa for our annual Summer Staff Gathering. Despite being one of the hottest days of the summer, our team’s spirits remained high as we enjoyed a day of creativity, wellness and connection. It was a great opportunity for our staff to step away from our day-to-day work and simply enjoy being together.

Looking ahead, the Fund will continue to be out in the community this fall. We look forward to connecting with many of you at the FNHPA 5th National Conference in Montreal in October. We encourage you to attend our luncheon presentation on October 15th where we will co-present our research paper ‘Pillars to Pathways’, with Signal 49 Research.

In terms of governance, we are seeking to fill one vacant Trustee position this fall. We are looking for individuals with strong capacity in First Nations housing finance, banking, investments, or governance. If you or someone you know is interested in contributing to the Fund’s mission, we encourage you to visit our Notice of Opportunity page to learn more about this exciting opportunity. The deadline for submissions is October 9, 2026.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership, engagement and support. The work ahead is significant, but so are the opportunities. We remain committed to advancing your goals and working together to help First Nations communities thrive.

Sincerely,

Travis Seymour, FCPA, FCGA, MBA, CAFM
