SEPTEMBER 4, 2024 — Old Massett Members will now have the opportunity to secure funding for homeownership through the First Nations Market Housing Fund (FNMHF) thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Old Massett Village Council and Northern Savings Credit Union.
The goal of the FNMHF is to help create the capacity in First Nations communities to support and sustain loan-based housing programs, which allows Members to build, renovate, or purchase a home in their on-reserve community. To date, working with 41% of the First Nations in Canada, the Fund has supported an estimated 7,000 home loans.

Northern Savings has worked as a participating lender with the FNMHF since 2016 – and has been providing home ownership funding for Skidegate Members for several years. The credit union’s Masset Branch Manager, Lareina Woode, worked hard to establish the connection for Old Massett Members and these efforts have finally come to fruition.
“There is no place like home as Dorothy on Wizard Oz said. For OMVC members, this famous quote will now be applicable to them as the new homeownership program will provide an opportunity for members to realize their dream of homeownership in the community,” said Scott Flamand, on behalf of the First Nations House Market Fund.
Northern Savings CEO, Stefan Delloch stated, “It is important that all individuals have equal opportunities for home ownership and Northern Savings is proud to support Old Massett Members in overcoming obstacles in attaining their own homes. Northern Savings is committed to reconciliation, and this is just one step forward in our journey.”
OMVC Members are invited to learn more about the program by contacting Scott Flamand at 705.618.1093 or by emailing flamandmservices@gmail.com.
