Position Overview

The Homeownership Navigator supports First Nations in supporting access to housing and mortgage financing on reserve through the development and delivery of customized Credit Enhancement (CE) Programs. Working in partnership with First Nation leaders, lenders, and community members, the role advances market-based housing solutions, promotes financial literacy, and supports individuals in achieving homeownership readiness. This position requires travel of up to 25%.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of market-based housing policies and establish program parameters in collaboration with First Nation leadership and Band Administration.
  • Develop and maintain eligibility criteria (e.g., Schedule C), ensuring alignment with community needs and program objectives.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, assess changing community needs, and recommend updates or amendments to program terms and conditions.
  • Prepare business cases, conduct financial and interest rate analyses, and support housing project viability assessments.
  • Facilitate relationships and negotiations with lenders, including reviewing offers, coordinating agreements, and supporting the approval process.
  • Act as a liaison between First Nations and lenders, supporting mortgage application processes, insurance requirements, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, materials, and community forums to promote housing programs and increase awareness among First Nation members.
  • Provide one-on-one guidance to First Nation members, including pre-qualification support, application assistance, and navigation of lender requirements.
  • Deliver financial literacy training and workshops focused on budgeting, credit management, and homeownership readiness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with First Nation stakeholders, lenders, and partners while contributing to a collaborative and culturally respectful work environment.

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Social Services or a College diploma in an area that is relevant to this position.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working with First Nation communities and members.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in relevant areas such as FN government, housing, financial services, consulting, or legal.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of the FNMHF’s overall objectives, strategy and policies and a solid understanding of its operations and processes.
  • Knowledge of the housing environment and real-estate.
  • Strong knowledge of loan administration and fiscal management.
  • Ability to engage and develop trusting relationships with clients.
  • Ability to provide education on issues of housing or homelessness.
  • Ability to articulate and provide effective advice and consultation to management and key stakeholders.
  • Possess enthusiasm about making positive change in the world.
  • Proficiency in Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and MS Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • French language is an asset.
